2WALKandCYCLE Future Conference Update
2WALKandCYCLE conference committee have decided not to hold a conference in 2026 and instead, as a result of discussion with the Transportation Conference, the intention is that there will be engaging content on active modes. It is likely that relevant draft sub-themes are likely to form session titles that will include:
• Supporting active and public transport modes through BAU
• Bike - On-road / off road integration – urban futures
• Co-design and bring communities on the journey; working with schools
• Reducing the cost of policing: self-explaining and self-enforcing road design
• Quicker ways to incorporate universal design & accessibility
There will be technical tours focusing on new Wellington walking and cycling infrastructure and pedestrian-friendly environments. These will showcase many of the developments in Wellington since 2WALKandCYCLE conference was last held in our capital city.
After the Transportation Conference and based on the future political climate for walking and cycling, we will reassess whether to hold a 2WALKandCYCLE conference in the future.
Submissions to present at the conference have now closed and an outstanding record submissions have been received.
