Overview

Nelson is a community on the move and is considered by many as the walking and cycling capital of New Zealand. The 2WALKandCYCLE 2014 Conference was held at the Rutherford Hotel in Nelson, October 29-31, 2014.

Theme
Communities on the move

“Communities on the move” will showcase how walking and cycling contributes to a strong, healthy and fun place to live. It is very much about creating community, through residents being in the public realm walking and cycling and really being part of the fabric of their community. Nelson itself is a living New Zealand example of this.

We would like to explore the transition to walking and cycling friendly communities and how it can:
  • improve economic development, public health, and the environment
  • promote community well-being
  • enhance quality of life at the personal level.

Our aim is to show how you can achieve this in your community, share great national and international examples and present strong data on successful New Zealand outcomes. We want delegates to leave the 2014 conference with a firm idea to get their communities on the move.
